BATMThree Touchscreen Inspection
The outermost layer of the BATMThree display is a touchscreen. The screen’s ribbon cable wraps around the display and connects to a controller assembly. The controller connects to the BATM via a standard USB A-B cable.
If your touchscreen fails to work, check the cables first. The glass screen is one of the most difficult components to replace in a BATMThree, so first eliminating the other (more likely) components is a wise move.
Check the USB cable.
The standard A-B USB cable plugs in to the #6 USB port on the mainboard, and the other end into the touchscreen controller (underneath the panel).
Check the controller.
If the USB cable is connected properly, then next inspect the controller assembly. You’ll have to remove it to get a clear view of the indicator. Be careful not to rip any cables during removal.
Unplug the USB “B” connector before removing the assembly.
Unscrew the single phillips-head fastener.
Carefully navigate the plate & controller out of the pocket.
Reinsert the USB “B” connector to test the controller board.
When the BATM is powered on, the controller should flash green every few seconds. It should also flash when the touchscreen is touched.
Replace the touchscreen.
If the controller is flashing periodically (as described), but not responding to your touch - then it’s likely you’ll have to perform the arduous task of touchscreen removal.
The touchscreen is fastened to the display panel using 3M double-sided tape. You’ll have to separate the old panel from the display - without breaking the display. Patience is required.
When you’ve received the new touchscreen, be sure to install new tape.
