Introduction

This article will give you reference on installation of Valina This guide describes the installation of the Q5000 card reader on existing BATMFour. You will need to use your own tools and equipment, please be sure to read carefully and take everything on site, although many steps can be covered with included tool set.

Upgrade consist of replacement metal sheet designed for reader installation, USB reduction for data connection and basic mounting fasteners. a BATMFour.

Overview

Installation consists of:

  • a custom metal plate designed specifically for the reader installation on the BATMFour,

  • a USB reduction for the data connection, and

  • basic mounting fasteners.

  • You will need to source your own card reader.

Installation steps

Prepare your Q5000 card reader. Card reader readers have a number code on the back and - while technically not needed for configuration , - we recommend to note what which number is in which terminal for future reference. Once the installation is done, the code won´t won't be visible.

Insert the Q5000 terminal into the rubber spacer as per shown in the picture.

Place the reader display down (onto a suitable surface so as not to not scratch it) and place upgrade sheet metal onto the custom plate onto the reader.

Align the mounting holes with the thread in reader, you can use USB . Use the USB-C cutout for coarse locatingroughing out the position.

Use the supplied screws and washers to attach the reader (there is 1 spare of each). Do not tight tighten them individually, rather insert all and tight start ALL and THEN tighten them together.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Use only a gentle torque to tighten these screws as . The reader nuts are embedded in plastic. You only need to ensure that the reader is not loose, if . If you tighten overtighten these screws hard, you risk reader damage.

Rest The rest of the manual closely follow follows the Valina upgrade kit. If you have some training for that, you can mostly reuse it. Do not throw away any fasteners, you will need to reuse them.

Be sure to remove power to the BATM before performing any maintenance on the

terminal, don´t forget to turn it off from mains

Open the top door and remove the computer cover.

Remove the fingerprint reader by unscrewing the 6 serrated nuts located at the perimeter of the fingerprint holder (socket size 7mm - included in your toolset). You can store Store the fingerprint reader temporary temporarily in the cross bar support, so it won´t won't interfere with your progress.

Release the NFC antenna sticker by carefully wedging a knife under it. You can remove it completely and store it, or just lift the sides as shown here.

Remove the 2 self-locking nuts (socket size 5,5mm - included in the toolset) while holding the screws by with a Phillips-head screwdriver (included in your toolset).

If you do not have the NFC configuration, you can now remove the antenna cover. If you do have NFC, continue with disconnecting the antenna disconnecting. To disconnect NFC antenna, remove NFC reader cover by unscrewing 1 the screw and sliding the cover away.

Antenna connector is secured in place by a little bit of hot glue. If you have a hot air gun, you can melt it, but less demanding is to or use a knife to cut it away. Once released, slide the connector to disconnect it.

Install the NFC reader cover back into its designated place by sliding and securing it with designated the proper screw.

Connect the Q5000 power supply for Q5000 into the power strip and route the power cable together along with the main cable bungle. You can twist it around or use zip ties. We found out that The power cable length is a little bit on the shorter short side, but acceptableusable. If you find it too short, you can use a USB cable extender to make it longer.

Connect the USB C cable into the reader and the USB header to the female reduction into the other end of the cable.

Connect the pin header into the motherboard.

Use the provided ZIP Ties ties to secure the cables going into the Q5000 to the provided tie point. This provide basic provides protection against accidental disconnection or damage - if there is excessive pull-force applied onto to the cables.

Turn on the BATM, check that the installation was successful, and that the reader is working.

  • If everything is fine, turn BATM off, and

  • install the computer cover (make sure you do not pinch the card reader cables).
