This guide describes the installation of the a QPay Q5000 card reader on a BATMFour.
GENERAL BYTES does NOT sell the QPay Q5000.
GENERAL BYTES does sell cover conversion plates to house the QPay Q5000 device.

Overview
Installation The installation kit consists of:
the custom cover plate from GB designed specifically for the reader installation on the BATMFour,
a the USB reduction for the data connection, and
basic mounting fasteners.
Obviously, you’ll also need a QPay Q5000 (not sold or included by GB).
Installation steps
Prepare your Q5000 card reader. Card readers have a number code on the back and - while technically not needed for configuration - we recommend you note which number is in which terminal for future reference. The code on the reader won't be visible once the installation is done.
Insert the Q5000 terminal into the rubber spacer as shown in the picture.

Place the reader display down (onto a suitable surface so as not to scratch it) and place the custom plate onto the reader.

Align the mounting holes with the thread in reader. Use the USB-C cutout for roughing out the position.

Use the supplied screws and washers to attach the reader (there is 1 spare of each). Do not tighten them individually, rather start ALL and THEN tighten them together.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Use only a gentle torque to tighten these screws. The reader nuts are embedded in plastic. You only need to ensure that the reader is not loose. If you overtighten these screws, you risk reader damage.

The tools included with your BATM are useful for this installation.

installed (typical), disconnect the NFC antenna and remove the NFC reader cover by unscrewing the screw and sliding the cover away.
If you do not have NFC installed, just remove the antenna cover.

The NFC antenna connector is secured in-place by hot glue. If you have a hot air gun, you can melt it, or use a knife to cut it away. Once released, slide the connector to disconnect it.

A little bit of hot glue is also used to secure the other end of the cable. Carefully release it and remove the NFC antenna.

Pull the NFC cable out (gently) through the hole in the

Unscrew the 11 serrated nuts (socket size 7mm

Remove only the top-most (original) plate (leave the distance plate installed).

Install the custom BATMFour Q5000 cover plate.
Prepare your Q5000 card reader.

There is a spare screw and washer supplied.
Do not tighten them individually, rather start ALL screws and THEN tighten them together.

Gently tighten the 4 screws.
DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. The device nuts are encased in plastic. You only need to ensure that the reader is not loose. If you overtighten these screws, you may damage the reader.

Position the upgrade custom metal plate with the Q5000 installed in place, and refasten the 10 serrated nuts that we removed earlier. You will have 1 (

Before tightening

the nuts, wiggle the metal cover plate a little bit to ensure it is fully seated.
Be gentle with the torque used to tighten these nuts, we recommend 2

Reinstall the fingerprint reader.
Ensure that the reader is properly centered in the cutout by checking from the front of the machine.

Reinstall the NFC cover (with antenna if applicable).
Do not overtighten these 2 screws as it will bend the plastic cover.
Place sticker back and press in, so that it sticks to the cover completely.
If you have NFC, connect antenna back into reader. Polarity does not matter, pins are equal.
You don't have to glue it in place, unless you plan to transport the machine.
Install the NFC reader cover back into its designated place by sliding and securing it with the proper screw.
Connect the Q5000 power supply into the power strip

Route the power cable along with the main cable bungle.
You can twist it around or use zip ties.
The power cable length is a little bit on the short side, but usable.

If the situation is unacceptable, you can use a USB cable extender.
Connect the USB-C cable into the reader, and
the USB header to the female reduction into the other end of the cable.
Connect the pin header into the motherboard.
Be sure you have it in correct orientation, otherwise it won't work (but shouldn’t be damaged).
Use the provided ZIP ties to secure the cables going into the Q5000. This provides protection against accidental disconnection or damage
